More as 100 articles and 4 books have been published

Has published 4 books in the field of orthodontics, one about “Stimulotherapy in Orthodontics” (in Spanish)

Gives courses around the world about his MFS philosophy.

Creator of the MFS philosophy: individualized prescription of the brackets and Stimulotherapy devices.

MFS (multifunction system) is a new diagnosis and treatment philosophy in orthodontics based on the codified diagnosis of oral functions. Oral functions normalization with the use of Stimulotherapy devices. A diagnosis protocol used to calculate the individualization of the brackets torques prescription. MFS objectives are aesthetics and/or stability at the end of the orthodontic treatment.

MFS (multifunction system) PHILOSOPHY

1 – CODIFYING ORAL FUNCTIONS: It’s a new concept that gives a number to each function:

  • Breathing
  • Swallowing
  • Masticatory pattern
  • Key factors:
    • Nose collapse
    • Tongue mobility
    • Adenoids hypertrophy
    • Tonsils hypertrophy

Oral functions codification is a diagnostic tool that gives to the orthodontist the possibility to evaluate the level of dysfunction on each patient and re-evaluate –sometime later- his problem and see if the functional problem has resolved or not.

2 – MFS STIMULOTHERAPY: Is the possibility to use stimuli in the orofacial area to promote automatized exercises to correct oral dysfunctions. A stimulus sensed an afferent sensitive signal to the thalamocortical area of the brain and this response with an efferent motor signal to the muscles around the stimuli.

3 - MFS STIMULOTHERAPY DEVICES: developed to create stimuli during his night time use and promote continuous reflex exercises of the muscles, helping to normalize the oral functions. There are different MFS Stimulotherapy devices:

  • Nose stimulator
  • Mouth obturator
  • Lips stimulator
  • Musculature relaxant
  • Bite plane
  • Ant-bruxism device
  • Open bite device

They work to treat: mouth breathing, nose collapse, snoring, help apnea, lips incompetency, short upper lip with a gummy smile, perioral muscular contraction, bruxism, deep bite, open bite and to protect fixed mechanics from the muscular pattern and promote a faster action of the mechanics…

4 – MFS OCCLUSAL DIAGNOSIS: based on the occlusal analysis and calculating anterior, lateral and posterior discrepancy. Also using a protocol to calculate the stable position of the lower incisors.

5 – MFS CUSTOMIZED BRACKETS PRESCRIPTION: using a specific protocol to calculate the torques of the brackets, different for each patient. MFS most important objective is stability. For that, we calculate the torques to obtain:

  • Lower incisors stability: equilibrium position in relation to the musculature.
  • Upper incisors stability: parallelism between the upper central incisors axis and facial growth axis.
  • Canines overjet: to protect TMJ functionalism.
  • Premolars inner intercuspidation: for a better function.
  • Molars inclination: to establish a posterior pee curve.

6 – NEW AESTHETIC AND SELF-LIGATING BRACKET: that could be passive or active, using the MFS customized brackets prescription.

7 – MFS MECHANICS: using Nickel-Titanium wires during all the orthodontic treatment, the most time with upper Spee curve and lower antiSpee curve. We used also a new concept of anterior anchorage with anterior retainers.

  • To control oral dysfunctions as aetiological factors that can promote the relapse.
  • To help to the mechanics in the treatment of open bites and deep bites.
  • To maintain the lower arch in centric relation during the treatment.
  • To protect orthodontic treatment from bruxism.

  • Integration of functionalism with fixed mechanics.
  • Preventing relapse, searching stability at the end of the treatment.
  • Customizing brackets prescription and mechanics for each patient, using anterior and posterior anchorage methods.

Prof.Dr Ashwin M. Jawdekar Mumbai

Dr.Fadil Mehmeti. Macedonia, Europe

It is my pleasure to write a testimonial about Prof. Duran Von Arx. I know him really shortly - only two years, but I was surprised following his lectures and workshops at his Orthodontic World Institute in Barcelona - Spain. Any dentist doing orthodontics who wants to be at the cutting edge of orthodontics should attend  Dr Duran Von Arx seminars. I was impressed by his theory of individualizing torque of each tooth and created a special design 3D model of multi-torque brackets.

Dr.Anoop Padmanabhan Kerala India

One of the best programs in Orthodontics I ever attended. Prof.Jose Duran offers sessions in good English with clarity and in a very structured manner. It is a value for money program which is self-driving with each minute of study is simply excellent. He offers online support for any clarification at any point in time.  This will be a great one, especially for freshers those who need to practice fixed as well as myofunctional appliances in orthodontics. I strongly recommend this program.

Dr.Annie Roz Rodrigues  São Paulo, Brazil.

Orthodontist  7 years, in the city of Campinas, state of São Paulo, Brazil."The  MFS System course of Dr Jose Duran von Arx brought me a new look, more extended, for orthodontic treatment for my patients. Before, as good as the anamnesis and diagnosis were, planning was based only on conventional orthodontics. Today, that same patient can be treated in a different way, with devices that reach the origin of skeletal and dental problems. It was a great experience knowing MFS System, I recommend! "

Dr Ljubinka Siljanoska Skopje - Europe

“ I met  Prof. Jose Duran von Arx for the first time in Macedonia during the second international congress in orthodontics. He was lecturing about Stimuloterapy (multifunction system) and about individualization of the prescription and stability of the brackets. His skills as a lecturer were excellent, all participants were very satisfied with the subject that he has covered during his sessions. His course was interactive and he managed to keep high interest among all participants. All questions and discussions were answered and explained in a very good way as a result of his knowledge and expertise in orthodontics. The MFS (multifunction system) was created as part of his work during these all years and this system will be implemented and will have high importance in myofunctional therapy especially for young children. This will help in preventing and correcting malocclusion. I am very grateful to Prof.Jose for all his knowledge that he has shared with us and I wish him a lot of success in his future career and life.
I would be pleased to have the opportunity to attend some of his next courses”

Dr.Sali Idais -Jordan

I am Dr.Sali Idais -Jordanian dentist - Prof.Dr. Jose Duran, I want to thank you for the information and knowledge about multi-function system you shared with me over the course period although more of the changes you made in my practice treatment and you gave me new diagnosis and treatment procedures with most of my cases by using stimul0therapy devices.  Words are not enough to express my appreciation and thank you again for your training and education and experience you gave to me, In my opinion, you are the best professor.
